Terroir is an essentially untranslatable French
term (pronounced tair-wah), that encompasses the complete natural
environment of a vineyard site. It represents the holistic combination
of soil, topography and climate which is unique to every vineyard
in the world.
The Brancott Terroir Series presents limited release
wines that use one variety from different areas to showcase the
influence terroir has on the wine. Sometimes these sites are only
a few kilometres apart, but the differences are strikingly obvious
in the wine.
Brancott has been growing grapes longer and across
a wider range of sites in Marlborough and Gisborne than any other
winemaker. This puts us in a unique position to appreciate and
present these terroir variations.
To allow wine connoisseurs to
experience these fascinating terroir effects in its purest form,
the accent with these wines is on what happens in the vineyard.
Winemaking influences have been limited to a minimum.
